The notice must be in writing. Ask for a signature on your copy, or send it by registered post: the notice period runs from the day of delivery, and that is the date you may have to prove.

How to send it

What almost always counts is not the date on the letter but the date it arrives. Send it by registered post, or hand it in and ask for a stamp on your own copy — that gives you the proof the deadline is counted from.
