Terms of use

These terms describe what you can expect from the directory, and what the directory expects from you.

1. What UA Near is, and is not

UA Near is a directory of Ukrainian and Ukrainian-speaking businesses, professionals and services abroad. It is a reference service: we help you find the right contact, but we are not a party to any agreement between you and a business. Using the directory is free for visitors and owners alike; we take no payments and no commission.

2. Who may use the directory

Anyone may browse the directory without an account. You may create an account if you are at least 16; one person keeps one account and answers for everything done from it. Give a real name and a working email address, and never share your sign-in details — if you suspect somebody else has reached your account, tell us.

3. Listings, and where they come from

Some listings are added by business owners, some we compile from public sources. A person on our team checks every listing before it is published — nothing goes live automatically. The directory holds registered business and professional activity: both companies and sole traders. We do not create profiles of private individuals as such. A business being listed does not mean it asked to be, and we do not guarantee that the details are complete or current — check what matters directly with the business before you go.

4. Claiming and removing a listing

An owner can take over a listing through the “Claim a business” form; once the claim is approved they edit the details themselves. You may ask for a listing to be removed at any time and you need give no reason — we handle such requests within 10 working days. If somebody else asked for your business to be removed and you believe they had no right to, write to us and we will review the decision. After a removal we keep a short record that this business is not to be listed, so that it does not come back the next time public sources are processed.

5. Reviews

Only a signed-in user can publish a review, and one review per business. You may keep your name off the listing: the review is still tied to your account and the same rules apply to it. Besides the rating, the form asks two things: were you served in Ukrainian, and how long did you wait for an appointment; the answers are shown on the listing as a summary. A review appears in the directory immediately — we do not read it before it is published. Write about your own experience — we remove reviews that are invented, abusive, unlawful or that expose somebody else’s personal data, but we do not remove a review for being unfavourable. The owner may reply to it once, in public.

6. Community requests and replies

Community requests and the replies to them are public and appear under the name on your account. A reply may recommend a particular business from the directory; hidden advertising and the same link posted over and over do not belong here. We remove a request or a reply when we are told it is unlawful, misleading or abusive; both also go when you delete your account.

7. Orders and bookings

An order or a booking made through the directory is a request addressed to the business, not to us. The contract, if one is made, is between you and the business; we are not a party to it, we charge no commission and we do not guarantee performance. The business receives your name, email address, phone number, note and preferred time so that it has something to answer with. The business itself decides whether to accept the order, decline it or propose another time.

8. Owner tools and duties

Once your claim is approved, the owner dashboard gives you the listing editor, the statistics of views and contacts, the review code, the short profile link and alerts in Telegram. Keep the business details true and current, and make sure you hold the rights to the name, the text and the photographs you add. If you work in a regulated profession, the permits and the mandatory disclosures are your responsibility. “Ukrainian owned” is optional: you can tick it when adding a business, and its owner can set or clear it in the dashboard. Our editors can correct it. Only our editors decide publication and award “Verified” or the quality mark.

9. The four marks

The directory uses four marks: Ukrainian owned, Ukrainian spoken, Verified, and the quality mark. The business is declared to have been founded by Ukrainians or to be owned by them. “Ukrainian owned” is optional: you can tick it when adding a business, and its owner can set or clear it in the dashboard. Our editors can correct it. This is a declaration about the business, not proof of independent verification. “Ukrainian spoken” follows the declared languages or the business’s own website; our editors can correct it. “Verified” means our team confirmed that the listing’s details are correct; the quality mark additionally means we saw the documents. Only our editors decide publication and award “Verified” or the quality mark. If you clear “Ukrainian owned” and the business has no “Ukrainian spoken” mark, “Verified” is also removed. The quality mark is independent and is not removed by this change. None of the marks can be bought. None of the marks guarantees the quality of the service, and we will withdraw any of them if the grounds turn out not to hold.

The homepage shows the most interesting events of the next 60 days, not only Ukrainian ones. An AI model assesses automatically, from its public description, how significant an event is: large city festivals and concerts by well-known performers rank above routine parties, weekly markets and small meetups. Of two equally significant events, the one connected with Ukraine or the Ukrainian community comes first. Events that have not started yet come before those already running. From one tour or series, the homepage shows only one event. Our team can correct the assessment. Our team can also choose for itself which events the homepage shows for a given country. Those events come first, in the order the team has set, and the rule of one event per tour or series does not apply to them; we fill the remaining places automatically, as described above. When such an event ends, the next one takes its place. Priority placement cannot be bought. We judge both significance and the connection with Ukraine by the event’s programme, not by the citizenship or origin of its performers.

10. What you must not do

You must not use the directory to impersonate somebody, or to add false, unlawful or abusive content. Do not post advertising or repeated links, do not work around moderation with further accounts, and do not review your own business. Automated downloading of the content, bulk copying of it, harvesting contact details out of the directory and any load that harms the site are forbidden.

11. Content you post

The rights to the text and the photographs you add stay yours. By adding them you give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free right to display them in the directory, in search results, on event pages and in link previews for as long as they are on the site. You are responsible for having the right to post that content and for it not infringing anybody else’s rights. When you delete your account, your reviews, requests, replies and claims go with it.

12. Reporting, moderation and contesting a decision

Anyone may report a listing without an account; a review or a reply is reported by a signed-in user. A person, not a machine, decides on every report, and nothing on the page changes until somebody has looked. Content that breaks the rules is removed or hidden; if we remove something you posted, ask us and we will tell you why. You may disagree with a decision — write to us and somebody else on the team will look at it again.

Submitted events require review before publication. Source events may publish automatically; an editor reviews uncertain material and changes requiring review. We may correct, hide, reject, or delete an event. Anyone may report an event without an account — right on its page, as for a listing. Send a copyright complaint, or a disagreement with our decision, through the contact form: we answer a message sent that way, while a report on an event only waits for a moderator to read it. News items are detailed Ukrainian retellings of publishers’ articles that preserve important details. We prepare some of them automatically, and our editors prepare others with the help of AI, from any publisher’s article. We keep the publisher’s name and source link for editorial verification; we do not display them on a retelling’s page or card. News without a finished retelling links to the publisher’s website. A moderator reviews uncertain retellings. A publisher or a reader can ask us through the contact form to correct or remove a retelling.

We translate the text of events and news into the site’s languages automatically, and our editors may also add their own translation. We translate from the Ukrainian text or, for an event published without one, from the source text. If the translation of an event or news item differs from the text it was made from, we treat that text as correct, not the translation.

Owners can submit events, local offers and announcements from their profiles. New content and edits are reviewed before publication. Offers display their terms and validity dates.

13. No warranty

The directory is provided as it is and, so far as the law allows, without warranties. We do not warrant that the site will always be available and free of errors, nor that the details on a listing are accurate, complete and current. Nor do we warrant that a listed business will suit your purpose — check what matters with them before you go.

14. Limitation of liability

We are not liable for what listed businesses do, for content other users posted, or for indirect loss, lost profit or lost data. Liability for intent and gross negligence, for injury to life or health, and for anything that mandatory law does not allow to be limited is untouched by this. These terms do not restrict the consumer rights you have under the law of the country you live in.

15. Suspension and changes to these terms

We may suspend or remove an account or a listing if somebody breaks these terms or if the law requires it. The terms change over time as the service does; we announce material changes 14 days before they take effect, with a notice at the top of this page. If you do not agree with a change you can delete your account at any time; by using the directory after a change takes effect you accept it.

16. Governing law, language and contact

These terms and the use of the directory are governed by the law of the Slovak Republic. If you are a consumer resident in another European Union country, the mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country are preserved — this paragraph does not set them aside. The Slovak version of these terms is the binding one; the other languages are translations of it, and the Slovak text prevails if they differ. Write to hi@uanear.com with any questions.
