German inflation rose to 2.9% in August

Consumer prices in Germany rose by 2.9% in August 2026 compared with a year earlier and by 0.2% compared with July. Annual inflation accelerated from 2.8% in July.

Energy prices rose 10.5% year on year and fuel prices 27.7%. Electricity, gas and district-heating prices fell, however, leaving household energy 0.7% cheaper overall; services rose 2.8% and net rents 1.9%.
