UAM accepts aid applications from protected students until 17 September

The Autonomous University of Madrid has opened the ninth UAM Refugio call for the 2026/2027 academic year. Applicants may be students enrolled in official undergraduate or postgraduate programmes at UAM who hold international or temporary protection, have a valid asylum-seeker red card issued in the Community of Madrid, or can demonstrate a comparable need for international or humanitarian protection. They must also have no outstanding debt to the university and remain within the set household-income thresholds.

Support may cover the public fees for a student’s first enrolment at UAM. Applicants must enrol for at least 60 credits for full-time study or 30 credits for part-time study; failed or cancelled subjects are not covered. A separate grant of €4,000–€12,000 is available for September 2026 to August 2027. The amount depends on credits and socioeconomic circumstances, and only one person per household may receive it.

Before formalising enrolment, applicants should email their faculty office and state that they intend to apply for UAM Refugio. They should enrol and obtain the payment slip, but must not pay it or set up direct debit before the aid decision. The deadline is 17 September 2026 at 17:00.
