Slovakia and Ukraine are preparing bilingual secondary schools and joint projects

On 2 September, an interministerial coordination group on Slovakia’s participation in Ukraine’s reconstruction met. It was convened by the Ukraine Reconstruction Department at the Office of Slovakia’s Deputy Prime Minister, with representatives of 17 ministries and state institutions taking part. The group reviewed cooperation and prepared materials for a joint meeting of the two countries’ governments.

In education, an agreement to establish a Ukrainian-English bilingual secondary school in Slovakia and a Slovak-English secondary school in Ukraine is ready for signature. Both sides aim for the schools to begin operating in the 2027/2028 school year.

The meeting also reported on the reconstruction of the Mukachevo–Veľké Kapušany electricity connection, expected to finish a year ahead of the original timetable, and on preparation of a winter package with transformers, generators, and spare parts. Preparations continue for the reconstruction of the Vyšné Nemecké border crossing, procurement of equipment in Čierna nad Tisou, and expansion of the Košice–Mukachevo rail link; Slovakia is also ready to launch a Uzhhorod–Prague night train. Officials mentioned humanitarian and medical assistance, cooperation in social security and labour mobility, and €170 million in cumulative support for Slovak exporters.
