Poland is replacing temporary-protection certificates with PESEL UKR

Since 5 March 2026, Poland’s Office for Foreigners has no longer issued certificates confirming temporary protection. For eligible people who entered Poland lawfully, the official proof is now a PESEL number with UKR status.

After obtaining PESEL UKR, the holder can download an electronic residence document in the mObywatel app. Certificates issued before 5 March 2026 remain valid through 4 March 2027. Their holders may apply for PESEL UKR without leaving Poland; once PESEL UKR is assigned, the old certificate is cancelled.

Certificate holders continue to have access to the labor market. If they start a new job, the employer must notify the district labor office through praca.gov.pl within seven days of the start date.
