The Netherlands raises the maximum municipal shelter contribution for Ukrainians

The Dutch government has updated the personal contribution paid by displaced people from Ukraine who live in municipal reception and have sufficient income. From 1 August 2026, the maximum operating-cost contribution is €244.22 per adult per month, capped at €488.44 for a family with two adults.

If the reception facility also provides meals, the maximum meal contribution is €260.97 per adult and no more than €521.94 per family. A two-adult family receiving meals can therefore pay a maximum total of €1,010.38 a month.

The municipality decides whether a person must pay, based on income and family circumstances. Changes in income or household composition must be reported within the period set by the municipality; the government Q&A gives a two-week deadline. Check your municipality’s decision before paying.
