Ireland reduces housing support and prepares a new permission for Ukrainians

The Irish government approved the phased withdrawal of state-contracted commercial accommodation for Ukrainians from August 2026 to March 2027. The monthly Accommodation Recognition Payment for hosts is to be set at €400 from October 2026. People in state accommodation who consider themselves vulnerable will be asked to declare their need to remain and provide supporting evidence.

The government also plans a Stamp 4 permission under the Temporary Protection Transition Scheme for up to two years, renewable thereafter, with the time counting towards naturalisation. The announced conditions include at least one year of residence in Ireland under temporary protection, six months of employment or self-employment with annual income of at least €29,432, and no state-supported accommodation at the time of application. The permission will cover the family unit but cannot be held together with temporary protection or another immigration permission.
