Irish inflation rises to 3.7% in August

Consumer prices in Ireland rose by 3.7% in August 2026 compared with August 2025, after a 3.4% increase in July. Excluding energy and unprocessed food, inflation was 2.9%. The largest annual increases were in education services, up 8.9%, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, up 8.5%, and transport, up 5.4%.

Prices rose by 0.7% over the month. Clothing and footwear increased by 3.6% and transport by 3.0%, while recreation, sport and culture fell by 1.1%. The average price of a litre of diesel was €1.95, 25 cents more than a year earlier; petrol averaged €1.87 per litre, 15 cents more.
