Austrian parliamentary committee backs extension of family benefits for Ukrainians

The Austrian Parliament’s Family Committee approved a bill extending Familienbeihilfe and Kinderbetreuungsgeld for people displaced from Ukraine retroactively from 1 July 2026. The draft also removes the requirement to be employed or registered with the AMS employment service.

Under the current draft, people and children receiving Grundversorgung basic support would not qualify for Familienbeihilfe, except families with a child with a significant disability. Government parties said amendments may still be made before the plenary vote, including on transitional rules and hardship cases.
