37% of people in Austria encountered online hate speech

In 2025, 37% of people in Austria aged 16 to 74 said they had encountered hostile or degrading online content during the previous three months. The figure was 31% in 2023, while the EU average in 2025 was 40%.

Hate speech most often concerned political or social views, religion or belief, and ethnic background. It was reported by 45% of social-media users and 55% of pupils and students.
